Scale-up Approach
Our project development and commercial scale-up approach covers Green H2 along its entire value chain both upstream and downstream. Upstream H2 production and storage and downstream Power-to-X applications i.e., green ammonia, green methanol, dimethyl ether and other synthetic fuels.
It is our endeavour to scale-up commercially viable Power-2-X projects based on solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology as well as alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) technology depending on the project profile and positioning. We seek to integrate high temperature solid oxide-based H2O → H2 and H2O/CO2 → H2/CO co-electrolysis processes with green chemical production where possible.

Madoqua H2
Our flagship 500 MW hydrogen project located at the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (ZILS) in Alentejo, Southern Portugal.
- Phase 1 – 500 MW modular alkaline water electrolyser
- ~51,000 tons of hydrogen per annum
- Total investment €1000m

Madoqua NH3
Our flagship 1200 MTPA ammonia project located at the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (ZILS) in Alentejo, Southern Portugal.
- Phase 1 – 1200 MTPA Haber-Bosch technology based modular plant
- Onsite storage, transit pipeline and marine loading arm.
- Total investment €500m
- 115 direct and over 3000 indirect job creation, across phases
- First large scale renewable ammonia production facility in Europe
- Market maker – capacity to support additional offtake of up to 30 kTPA from the REN H2 Loop

Our innovative 320 kTPA of e-methanol synfuels project located at in Center Portugal.
- 450 kTPA CO2 capture and utilization
- 500 MW modular alkaline water electrolyser
- 260 kTPA direct CO2 hydrogenation based e-MeOH production
- Onsite storage and rail loading arm
- Total investment €1.3bn
- 500 direct and indirect job creation
- The first large-scale renewable e-MeOH production facility in Europe, focused on decarbonizing the cement industry and utilizing biomass.
- e-MeOH bunkering and offtake at Port of Aveiro and Sines
- Dedicated renewable energy assets will be developed in parallel
Madoqua Green Fuels Terminal
Madoqua Green Fuel Terminal aims to construct a state-of-the-art future fuel storage and refueling terminal that will be powered by renewable energy near the Port of Sines, Portugal.
- Future Fuels for Bunkering: Methanol, CO2, Ammonia, Naphtha, Diesel, Hydrogen.
- Green Corridor will launch by Q4 2024, partnering with the governments of Portugal, the Netherlands, and Germany.
- EU Support: Awarded CEF Cross-Border Renewable Energy grant and €200k pre-development funding under the "Connecting Europe Facility.”
- Portugal's support was nominated for CEF Transport and AFIF programs.
- Storage Capacity: Phase 1 - 80k tonnes (COD 2029), Phase 2 - 300k tonnes (COD 2032).
- Open-use green fuels terminal funded by private investment with EU backing.
